Stock market today, stock market crash news:The Indian stock market saw a bear attack on Monday, with the BSE Sensex crashing nearly 1,314.71 points or 1.53 per cent to 84,257.14 levels intraday, and the Nifty falling 384.15 points or 1.47 per cent at 25,794.10 levels.
At close, the BSE Sensex stood at 84,299.78, down 1,272.07 points or 1.49 per cent. The Nifty50 index closed at 25,810.85, down 368.10 points or 1.41 per cent.

The retreat in the stock market roday comes on the back of consecutive fresh highs breached by the benchmarks Sensex and Nifty in the last couple of weeks. Earlier on Friday, too, the bourses hit new highs with Sensex touching 85,978.25 and nearing the 86,000 mark, while the Nifty reached a fresh peak of 26,277.35 level.  
“Investors seem nervous about the valuation levels of overbought Indian stocks and have turned caustious begining last Friday. Today’s fall appears to be coninuation of that profit booking. Besides, foreign flows are also moving towards the Chinese market due to attractive valuations,” said Deepak Jasani, head – retail research at HDFC Securities. 

The index heavyweights that pulled the BSE Sensex down on Monday in terms of contribution included Reliance Industries, ICICI BANK, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and Bharti Airtel falling up to 2 per cent each among others. RIL’s share price fell the most, plummeting 2.11 per cent at Rs 2,988 per share in the intraday trade on the BSE.
